Paris - Roubaix

13 april 2014   Northern France

The 112th edition of The Queen of the Classics, The Hell of the North, the most prestigious one-day race in cycling.  Over 160 miles, mostly farm roads, much of it cobblestones. Riveting to watch.  I sat in front of the TV for over four straight hours with only two 2-minute breaks for commercials!

The two favorites, Tom Boonen and Fabien Cancellara, survived  6 hours of hell and were in the lead group approaching Roubaix but a young Dutch rider, Niki Terpstra, attacked and no one had the legs to follow him.

I first became interested in the race in the 70s when I saw the feature-length film “A Sunday in Hell”. It’s worth watching.
